This isn’t about politics – It is about Leadership

I’ve been following the recent exchange between Trump and Elon Musk. Let me be clear: I’m not getting into politics. That’s not my lane. But as someone who leads businesses, teams, and most importantly — a family — I couldn’t help but see this through a leadership lens.

Elon criticized a proposed bill, highlighting its impact on innovation and the deficit. Then he made a personal jab — one I believe crossed the line. He deleted it. It was reckless, but he pulled back.

Trump responded — not just with words, but by threatening government contracts with Elon’s companies. Not over performance or public interest, but because of criticism. That’s not leadership. That’s retaliation.

In business, I’ve made hard calls — walked away from deals, stood firm when things didn’t align with my values. But I’ve also learned this: you don’t lead by punishing people who disagree with you. You listen. You respond with clarity, not emotion.

I’m not choosing sides here. Both men got emotional. Both could’ve handled things differently. But when you’re in a public leadership role — especially one that carries the weight of a nation — your reaction sets the tone for everyone watching.

Just a few nights ago, in our family meeting, my younger son asked if we’re moving. Before I could answer, my wife and older son explained how I often “float ideas” when I’m still thinking through them. And they were right.

That moment reminded me:
It’s easy to lead in business. It’s harder to lead when your heart is involved.

Whether it’s a company, a home, or a country — leadership isn’t about control. It’s about responsibility. And if we lose that, we risk everything that matters.

I’m not here to debate politics. I’m here to challenge all of us — especially those in leadership — to lead better.
